CONDITION: AS REMOVED (AR)
Overview
- Compact, single-box full Flight Management System (FMS) providing control for aircraft’s navigation sensors including built-in GPS receiver, computer-based flight planning, fuel management and frequency management
- GPS receiver incorporates receiver autonomous intergrity monitoring (RAIM) for enhanced accuracy on GPS-derived IFR approaches as well as en route and terminal navigation
- Uses less depth (6.5″) than comparable self-contained FMS making it easier to install in pedestals
- All flight management functions and system controls are controlled via keyboard on panel
- Offers Fault Detection and Exclusion (FDE) enabling it to be used as primary means of navigation during transoceanic and remote area operations
- Accepts position and velocity information from up to four external sensor positioning units for inputs of one dedicated Inertial Reference Sensor (IRS) input, two other inputs for IRS and one input for an Inertial Navigation System (INS)
- Includes VORTAC position unit (VPU) processor which automatically selects best available DME/DME and VOR/DME measurements from VOR/DME, VORTAC, TACAN and ILS DME units
- External sensor interfaces include Inertial Reference Systems (IRS) or Inertial Navigation Systems (INS)
- Provides easy-to-use advisory Vertical Navigation (VNAV) allowing vertical portions of a flight plan such as altitude constraints, offsets and flight path angles programmed to vertical waypoints to be built in advance
- Incorporates 24 megabit Navigation Data Bank of a comprehensive worldwide Jeppesen database including such information as SID and STAR waypoints, approaches, VHF NAVAIDS, airports and runways
- Can maintain up to 56 flight plans in nonvolatile memory
- Extensive bus interface capability can handle input from and output to such on-board aircraft systems such as Air Data, compass system, altitude preselector, EFIS, weather radar, autopilot, COMM and NAV radios, and fuel flow system
- Four-channel Auto Fuel Flow feature provides information such as fuel remaining, fuel consumed, gross weight and individual engine consumption
- Navigation features include Greenwich Date and Mean Time, Present Position Coordinates, Magnetic Variation, Stored Waypoint Coordinates, Stored Flight Plans, Departure Time/Time Over Last Waypoint, Bearing to Waypoint, Distance to Waypoint, Estimated Time to Waypoint, ETA, Wind Direction and Speed, Desired Track, Drift Angle, Ground Speed, Track Angle, Crosstrack Distance, Vertical Deviation, Range and Time to Altitude Profile Point, Estimated Crossing Altitudes, Target Altitude Range
- Database features include all VHF NAVAIDS, all airports with hard surface runways longer than 2000 feet, all high and low altitude intersections, all on and off airway NDBs, all outer markers, runway thresholds, high altitude jet routes and low altitude airways by name, SID and STAR waypoints by procedure name, all RNAV Approach patterns
- Available with full AFIS (Airborne Flight Information System) interface providing two-way messaging, en route and terminal, winds aloft, flight plan updates, and performance management
- Graphical weather information display/link available through use of optional remote Data Management Unit (DMU) and Remote Processor Unit (RPU) used in conjunction with GNS-XLS
- Available with top or bottom view, black or gray color face, white or blue white lighting
- Can be used with VN-411B Series Nav Receiver
- To display Terrain Maps and Flight Plan on GNS-XLS Display part number 17960-0203-00XX is required
