Fillister head machine screw is considered an improvement over round head fastener because of their smaller head which creates more downward pressure for a given torque level. The thicker head also allows higher level torque to be generated. Made of steel with cadmium coating resists mold formation and provides a low friction surface. The sturdier body allows the screw to thread and unthread with ease. The drilled hole in the head allows lock wires to be inserted to tie them with adjacent screws which provides resistance to the screw from loosening. Part number AN502-10-14 are also known for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance and low temperature toughness.
